- Medical/health status evaluation
- To assure safety and to determine potential risks, the initial consultation includes assessment of personal medical history, family history of cardiovascular disease, cardiac risk factors, current medications and treatments, and history of cardiac and musculoskeletal disorders. It also includes discussion of acute and chronic goals, development of a needs analysis, recommendation of specific services, and status for future exercise counseling.
- Fitness testing/interpretation
- In a complete fitness program, testing before, during, and after participation is important to assess current fitness levels, to identify special needs for individualized counseling, to evaluate progress, and to motivate. Team Fitness offers a variety of test batteries to identify strengths and weaknesses. Norms provide a useful basis for interpretation and evaluation of test results.
- Body composition testing and analysis
- We use a variety of methods for determining body composition. Skinfold caliper or hydrostatic weighing techniques determine lean body mass (muscle, bone, fat-free tissue sums) and fat weight (fat tissue sums). We apply the most advanced formulas to this data to generate a complete metabolic profile. We analyze anthropometric measurements to evaluate symmetry, shape, and proportion, which later influence the exercise prescription. A somatotype (body classification) using the Heath-Carter somatotype scale reveals genetic potential. A body composition education segment offers further understanding of compositional changes.
Fitness & Nutrition Education
- Resistance exercise biomechanic analysis
- How to know if you're doing those exercises correctly. This is a basic analysis of the movements as performed, examination of the associated muscle(s), designation of specific joint angles for training, proper equipment adjustments, precautions for common injury sites, and suggestions for exercise choice and order.
- Exercise science and nutrition workshops and courses
- Multi-week programs that include elements of all four Steps To Success.
- Health/fitness lecture series
- These two-hour lectures provide a detailed scientific look at how exercise positively affects metabolism and psychological health, as well as such conditions as heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, and aging.
- Clinics
- Learn specifically how to train the hip/glute/thigh complex, chest and shoulders, abdominals, lower back, and other body parts—safely and effectively.
Fitness & Nutrition Prescription
- Cardiorespiratory (aerobic) exercise prescription
- For many individuals, this represents the foundation of the fitness regimen. We provide instruction in basic aerobic physiology, aerobic training theory and its adaptations, pre-exercise strategies, static flexibility exercises, self-monitoring practices, modes of cardiorespiratory exercise, and the F.I.T. criteria. The service includes interesting, practical, and informative literature.
- Musculoskeletal (anaerobic) exercise prescription
- We introduce muscle physiology and basic principles, systems, and training adaptations of resistance training (the most widely accepted form of musculoskeletal exercise), with emphasis on lifting techniques, exercise biomechanics, and practical considerations such as compatibility with other fitness components. We translate recent scientific discoveries into training methods and practices as part of an individualized, scientifically conscientious program. The services includes literature and recording materials.
- Flexibility exercise prescription
- This prescription is designed to improve joint, tendon, ligament, and muscle flexibility. It includes principles of static stretching and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, goniometric evaluation of joint ROM, and specific stretching drills, techniques, and exercises. We explain the role of flexibility with other exercise and supply illustrative/educational materials.
- Exercise nutrition prescription/diet recall analysis
- The Team Fitness nutrition prescription is the most comprehensive of its kind. This service is designed for all individuals who live and fuel an active lifestyle. We review contemporary nutrition education, nutrition concepts, correct/incorrect dietary practices, energy metabolism principles, behavior modification, and food shopping and cooking guidelines. We prescribe proper macronutrients (protein, carbohydrate, fats) and micronutrients (vitamin, minerals, accessory nutrients, and water) for your metabolic profile. Following the education segment, specific menu selections are recommended and the nutrition/supplement prescription is derived according to needs, goals, and psychological profile. The Diet Recall Analysis focuses on the typical three-day diet of the client. This service includes the Team Fitness Nutrition Manual.
Health- & Performance-Related Fitness Training
- Private/semi-private training
- This is the culmination of Steps to Success. The trainer provides instruction, exercise demonstration, monitoring, evaluation, and motivation. The one-on-one nature of the sessions provide opportunities for supervised and progressive variations, while the diverse Team Fitness services establish the direction, progression, and individualization of the exercise bouts. For the fitness enthusiast or the competitive athlete, private training is the single most important investment in health and performance.
- Performance-related/sport-specific training
- Performance-related training is designed to prepare the recreational, high-status amateur or professional athlete for a particular sport or event. We introduce principles of biomechanics, bioenergetics and its applications, speed improvement, plyometrics, specific sport-related drills, training in environment extremes, maximizing performance, and psychological/motivational strategies. We develop elements of agility, balance, coordination, speed, power, and reaction time through a specific, intricate performance-related exercise prescription. Athletic teams are encouraged to inquire.
Youth Strength & Conditioning

We offer ongoing strength and conditioning for young athletes and fitness enthusiasts 9-15 years old. Training sessions include strength training, aerobic and anaerobic conditioning, sport-specific training, functional training, and fitness education. Participants train in groups of one to three with a Team Fitness trainer. We instruct, supervise, and monitor each participant with proper program design and exercise biomechanics.
Position statements by the National Strength and Conditioning Society, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Pediatrics suggest that children can benefit from participation in a properly prescribed and supervised resistance training program. The major benefits are:
- Improved general health status
- Increased muscular fitness
- Prevention of injury during sports and recreation
- Improved body composition (increased lean body mass and decreased fat weight)
An amazing eight-week fitness and nutrition program designed to make you look better naked. This state-of-the-art program features pre/post body composition analyses, nutrition and weight-loss education, individualized nutrition programming, cardiorespiratory and strength training prescriptions, and weekly support meetings. Add private fitness training and you have a recipe for success!

- Phase III cardiac rehabilitation
- Cardiac rehabilitation is a multiphasic program of medical care that is designed to restore the coronary heart diseased (CHD) patient to a full and productive life. Exercise training is the most widely accepted therapeutic modality for CHD patients. Team Fitness presents phase III cardiac rehabilitation with progressive medical surveillance incorporating electrocardiographic monitoring, cardiorespiratory and flexibility exercise prescriptions, fitness testing/interpretation, psychological/vocational counseling, patient education and behavior modification regimens, and stress management/neuromuscular relaxation techniques. Please consult Team Fitness for admission criteria.
- Therapeutic exercise
- When an individual has known medical problems or diagnosed disease, the exercise prescription must be modified so the participant can make optimal physiological and psychological adjustment to the conditioning program. We prescribe for individuals with such conditions as pulmonary disease, diabetes mellitus, obesity, hypertension, peripheral vascular disease, and musculoskeletal/neuromuscular pain (e.g. lumbar pain). We structure resistance exercise prescriptions for common sites of injury such as shoulders, knees, elbows, neck, and back. Lower back care is particularly stressed.

Learn how to train each body part effectively and safely. Did you know that performing an exercise incorrectly is often interpreted by the brain as no activity at all? Many exercisers, both novice and advanced, make several errors simply because they are unaware of proper biomechanics. Feel free to take advantage of these informative clinics:
